LOCATION

The Stratum district is located in the southeast of Eindhoven and used to be a farming village surrounded mainly by woods and heathens. After the rise of industry in the 19th and 20th century (cigars and textiles) the connection of this district with Eindhoven became more and more important. Nowadays the district is further urbanised, but it certainly has restful, nature-rich places. In the west the district is bordered by the river Dommel and in the east by the Eindhoven Channel. The surroundings also have many rivers, parks and other green areas, including the Stadswandelpark, the Genepperparken, the Leenderheide and the Anne-Frankplatsoen.

Caractic sights, hotspots and organised activities

1. The parktheatre (”Park Theather”) Eindhoven in the ”Stadswandelpark”.
2. The St. Joris Church, which was consecrated in 1885. Since 1976 this church has been recognized as a national monument. This church is located directly opposite the Parktheater and Stadswandelpark.
3. Situated between the old core of stratum and the castle de Burgh is the characteristic white village where all the houses are painted entirely white. These houses were built by architect Willem Dudok and date from 1937-1939. The white village is also one of the national monuments.
4. The light route is an annual event that takes place in the Stratum district.
5. The water tower, a remarkable structure with three white spheres on the Antoon Coolenlaan built in 1970 with a height of over 40 meters. All three spheres have 500m³ of water. This makes this water tower the largest in the Netherlands!
